Founded in 1956, by Robert Davis, Davis Paint and Hardware was one of the first Handy Hardware stores in the Houston area. After a few years of operating as a hardware store, Robert’s mother-in-law, Hazel Schauer, who taught art classes, suggested selling art supplies for her students. This concept, caught on quickly! Robert saw the future and the business we know today was born. One day in 1977 Robert and his wife Sherry went on a vacation. While they were gone, his kids took all the hardware that was in the store, carried it upstairs and expanded the custom framing area. Robert was surprised when all of the hardware was gone. Robert owned the business from 1956 – 2012 and continued to work alongside his family at the store until his passing on February 15th, 2021. Robert’s business motto, which the family still continues today is, “Anyone can go anywhere and buy anything, but you can’t buy customer service”. Today, Davis Hardware and Custom Picture Framing, is still a family owned and operated business. In 2012, Robert’s daughter, Karry Davis Mader and her husband Tony Mader bought the store, to continue her father’s legacy. They work alongside their sons Michael and Robert Mader and family member Amy Mueschke. Although we started as a hardware store, we have been a full time dedicated custom frame shop for decades. We have framed everything from family photos to wedding dresses to priceless art and can take care of all your framing needs and more. You name it, we can frame it!
